Our aim is to develop knowledge and experience of the rich cultural diversity of percussion and dance, whilst inspiring teambuilding, confidence, enjoyment and self-esteem. Under1Sun strives to create a safe yet stimulating environment where excellence can flourish. We have experience of teaching people of all ages from primary school children to adults, including those with disabilities.
Our contacts in the larger Arts community enable us to collaborate with other professional artists creating fusion across The Arts, both in schools and in business. A partnership with Same Sky, Kinetika, Paddington Arts and Spiritus Arts, for instance, resulted in an ongoing community samba group called ‘Spiritus Jam’, which, under our stewardship, now meets every week and participates in parades and events in a ever-widening geographical area. In addition to our sustained partnership with Arts organisations (which also includes Los Kaos and Zap Productions) Under1Sun works closely with local Borough and County Councils across the South East.
Under1Sun also works internationally: a collaboration with Uckfield Community College in 2004 took us to Ghana, where we were integral to the development of a carnival parade for a Ghanaan school; teaching and directing the drum-section and building instruments fom scrap materials.
The company takes child protection and health and safety
very seriously: all our workshop assistants have an enhanced disclosure from
the Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) and earplugs are provided free to each individual
at every workshop with clear instruction of how to use them.
