All our workshops are designed to relate closely to National Curriculum for Music. We are also able to tailor workshops to specific requirements at the more advanced levels (for instance, help with students' own compositions). Samba is also a great basis for the many improvisational requirements of the Curriculum.
The following requirements are particularly well-served by our workshops:
Level 1: Performing with awareness of others; identifying and repeating short rhythmic patterns and taking account of musical instructions.
Level 2: Recognising and exploring how sounds can be organised and performing simple patterns and accompaniments keeping to a steady pulse.
Level 3: Performing rhythmically simple parts that use a limited range of notes. Improvising repeated patterns and combining several layers of sound with awareness of the combined effect.
Level 4: Performing by ear and from simple notations pupils maintain their own part with awareness of how the different parts fit together and the need to achieve an overall effect.
Level 5: Performing significant parts from memory and from notations with awareness of individual contribution such as leading others, taking a solo part and/or providing rhythmic support.
Level 6: Identiying and exploring the different processes and contexts of selected musical genres and styles. They analyse, compare and evaluate how music reflects the contexts in which it is created, performed and heard.
Level 7: discriminating and expoloring musical conventions in, and influences on, selected genres, styles and traditions. Performing in different styles, making significant contributions to the ensemble and using relevant notations
"A joy to work with, proving both reliable and flexible. Under1Sun takes the same energy and sincerity to each project whether it's with unruly youngsters or grade seven music students."
